Wastewater heat potential

Sewage contains energy that can be used in buildings for heating and indoor cooling. This is a hidden green energy potential that is not used properly. By implementing our technology, it is possible cover this potential reducing energy costs, CO2 emissions and dependence on external energy suppliers.

Sewage heat recovery unit

Unit is used for energy supply in production facilities, it provides heating, hot water and cooling (in freecooling mode). The unit must be connected to sewage system, where the volume and temperature of wastewater is constant year-round. The efficiency of the unit is calculated as the sum between the heat transferred to the production facilitie and the energy used for cooling, divided by the electricity consumption required to ensure those processes.

The heat pump’s operating cycle provides two energy resources – cold and heat. Both of these resources are necessary in the food production process. Sewage is a surplus of the production process with energy potential and energy storage properties.

Operational principle of the equipment

  • The unit is connected to the heat pump and Chiller by setting the operating temperature mode.
  • The heat pump on the A side produces heat (for heating, hot water, production process, etc.), on the B side it generates cold (for indoor cooling, production process, etc.).
  • Depending on the volume and temperature of the wastewater, it is possible to align the operating cycle of the heat pump and Chiller and maximize net power for heat and cold demand.
  • Sewage serves as an energy source and energy accumulator at the same time, because the cold and heat cycles do not coincide.
  • Adapting UNIT in the production process, it is possible to reduce energy costs significantly, saving money and CO2 emissions.
